In a major win for the teeth whitening kits and home teeth whitening vendors online, the Federal Trade Commission or the FTC has ruled that The North Carolina Board of Dental Examiners is in no position to ask for non-dentists to withdraw from the domain of teeth whitening.
What had started off as an outrageous claim by the Dental Board has ended in a severe win for the non-dentist teeth whitening kit vendors, and has helped stoke a fire that is soon to engulf other teeth whitening measures in other states of the USA as well. According to various sources, the North Carolina Board of Dental Examiners had begun sending out cease and desist orders to non-dentist teeth whitening manufacturers, who charged half or even lesser than what dentists charged for cosmetic dental whitening.
With the Board only comprised of dentists, the FTC ruled that dentists cannot kill off competition on their own, and any measures to do so need the approval of the state as well. And after a long review, the non-dentist fraternity was given a second life – with FTC ruling in their favor.
Even though the Board has decided to appeal this decision, it is a vindictive measure that is sure to affect teeth whitening trends in the US on the whole. This also stands testimony to the fact that the best teeth whitening trends are indeed the affordable home teeth whitening kits, unlike what dentists would like you to believe.
