Fluoride And Teeth

Fluoride is inevitable for teeth. In order to keep your teeth healthy, white and strong, you need fluoride. It helps to speed up demineralization of teeth enamel. It works on the teeth in two different ways.

  • While the children drink or eat fluoride, it enters into blood and participates in developing permanent teeth. Fluoride can be swallowed and this time fluoride becomes the part of saliva to give the teeth support from outside. Teeth enamel built up by fluoride are less likely to be damaged by acids.
  • Fluoride can be directly applied to the teeth as the form of fluoride toothpaste or mouth rinse.
Besides, you can go to a dentist for fluoride treatment, if required. Home teeth whitening kits are good, but fluoride treatments done by the dentists are better to prevent the development of acid in mouth by the bacteria. Dentists use fluoride as the form of gel, varnish or foam.

Fluoride, in the form of food, water or supplement, enters into the blood through stomach and gets absorbed by the body, and then it becomes available to teeth, in children. However, swallowed fluoride is not available to the teeth in people over the 16 years of age.
